Nice Greets with a Loose Leash

Having a friendly dog is a wonderful thing! Having a friendly dog with manners is even better. This 4 week class will focus on two essential skills: loose leash walking and keeping all four paws on the floor! This class will teach your overly friendly dog how to appropriately greet (or ignore) people instead of tackling them with excitement. We’ll also help you teach your dog how to maintain that beautiful loose leash in the face of distractions (including other dogs) with the added bonus of getting better on leash attention from your dog.

Please note that this class is for dogs who are extremely excited about saying hi to people and are leash pullers. This is not for dogs who respond fearfully or who lunge or bark aggressively towards other people or dogs.

Sports Sampler

Are you interested in dog sports but overwhelmed by the options? This 4-week class is a short introduction to tricks, nosework, agility, and rally! We'll spend one week on the foundation skills for each sport so you can get a better idea of where your dog will really shine!

Zen Dog

Does your dog have a hard time settling down in arousing situations, such as when company is over or on restaurant patios? Do they get nervous or display demand behaviors like barking, whining, or more when you aren’t paying attention to them? If your dog is over-excited in new situations or too nervous to calm down, Zen Dog is the class for you! Four-weeks long, this class will focus on teaching us how to nurture our dogs’ ability to self-soothe and settle in the home as well as in novel environments by incorporating impulse control, the “art of doing nothing” and more. These life-long skills can help set you and your dog up for success at home or in public, and are a great foundation for creating a healthier and more enjoyable relationship between you and your dog.

Multi-Dog Manners

Have you completed Basic Manners but need some extra help with your multi-dog mayhem? You are in the right place! This 4-week specialty class is tailored toward multi-dog families. We know that living with several dogs in one house can feel overwhelming- we are here to help! We will work on essential skills to help you and your dogs keep manners despite the excitement and distraction that your precious pups can pose for each other. Throughout classes, we will work on focus with both dogs around each other at a distance, and work towards training both at once, taking turns between dogs by honing impulse control and more!

Prerequisite:

Please attend an orientation with EVERY dog in attendance.

Completion of Basic Manners or instructor approval for each dog. You must have one handler per dog attend each class.

The Ultimate Recall (Come) Class!

Does your dog ignore you when you call them back? If your pup has "selective hearing", this 4-week recall class will help to tune them up! We'll implement techniques for a reliable recall and incorporate training games to make it a blast for both dog and handler. Proof your training for the real world with practice around distractions and long-distance recalls both indoors and out. This class will not only solidify your recall, but build your bond as a team so your dog will want to "come" every time you call.

Canine Good Citizen & Therapy Prep

The Canine Good Citizen test is a ten-skill training program by the AKC that’s open to all dogs–purebred and mixed breed– that focuses on teaching the basics of good manners and obedience, instilling the values of responsible ownership, and strengthening the bond between you and your dog at home and out in the community.

After mastering the ten skills, passing the CGC test together, and taking the Responsible Dog Ownership pledge, you and your pup will join the proud ranks of over 1 million dogs who have earned their Canine Good Citizen award– accomplishment that’s definitely worthy of extra belly rubs!

CGC is not the same as a therapy dog program, but many therapy programs require the CGC award before accepting pups into their class. And those that don't require the title still require the same skills!

Not to be confused with service dogs, therapy dogs are used to help comfort those in hospitals, nursing homes, schools, and more. The most important thing about a therapy dog is his behavior: is he friendly with people and other dogs? Does he welcome attention from adults and children? Will he react if someone makes a loud noise? These are all skills your dog will need to be a CGC and/or a therapy dog! Our 6 week prep class will help you polish your dog's skills so you're ready to pass your certification.

$40 for the Canine Good Citizen Test following class

Scheduling:

We typically run the CGC/Therapy Prep class quarterly, which means there may not be a class available for registration when you and your dog are ready. If that's the case, let us know so we can put you on the waitlist! We can also work on your dog's CGC/Therapy skills in private lessons if you want to get started sooner.

CGCA Prep/Dog About Town

Ready to test your dog's skills in the real world? This class will focus on real-life applications for the behaviors you learned in Advanced Manners class! We'll start off at Lucky Dog for the first week and spend the other 3 weeks of class meeting at various dog-friendly locations. If your dog already has their Canine Good Citizen Title, this class will also prepare you for the Community Canine, or CGCA, test. See description below.

Community Canine (CGCA) is the advanced level of AKC’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program. Like the CGC, dogs must pass a 10-step test of skills to earn their CGCA award. The test focuses on real-world scenarios and testing your dog's skills in a more natural setting, such as in a store or at the park.

Prerequisite:

Dogs must have completed Advanced Manners and have instructor approval.

Price:

$210 for a four-week class that meets for 50 minutes, once a week. At the end of the 4-week session, if you and your dog are ready to take the CGCA test, ask your trainer about scheduling a private lesson.
